. I just wish we saw a lot more of this fascinating lady
in books and on TV
I have a dish that picks up lots of German channels but Ive not seen very much about Sissi, but then, its very much hit and miss.
Her cousin King Ludvig of course is so much a part of German history... his close friendship with Wagner etc... he is endlessly fascinating.
And Ludvig worshipped his cousin Sissi who was a few years older than him.
Perhaps he saw her as an ideal woman.... to be worshipped and put on a pedestal.
I read that Sissi was tall and she liked wearing hi heels .....that of course made her even taller.
(Yet another link with the tall Princess Di.)
Sissi was obsessed with dieting... likewise Lady Di.
One area where their paths diverge however, is on the subject of horses... Sissi was a horse lover, a brilliant rider.... even riding in a circus at one time.
She must have been a brilliant horsewoman with a great knowledge of horses.... Diana on the other hand seems to have had an aversion... almost a fear.... of horses !
Here in England I don't see that much about Sissi, either on TV or in book form. I can't help feeling though that in regions like Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland there
are many wonderful books printed... down through the years with photographs, prints, paintings etc.
I can only urge anyone in these regions who might possess them, to scan the illustrations in and share them with the group.
The Empress Elizabeth... like Lady Di... is endlessly fascinating.
... we just can't see and read enough about them both.
This is a wonderful site, ( even though I can't read Italian ! ) but all credit to Marie for setting it up.
(She seems to have a divided loyalty between Sissi and Marie Antoinette ! )
Of course Sissi has her fans in Italy, Austria, Germany, England, in fact all around the world.... her life and legend go on and on ................ forever !
